PLANET FITNESS SALES AGENTS IN ROSEBANK EXPLOITING THE POOR

Princess, my helper at home, was advised by the Sales Agent Kenneth Nglemu, that she could have an amazing offer if she signed up at Planet Fitness. R200pm and she can cancel at any time with no penalties. He then produced the Contract for her signature which she did not understand as it was not explained to her and her first language is Zulu and the Contract was in English.

He also annotated Proof of Employment on the Contract which she did not have. He only asked her if she was employed and that was good enough to allow her to sign a 12month contract which would increase after 6months to R329.00 of which again she was not advised. When she realised what she had done by entering into this Agreement when the Debit Orders from Planet Fitness started coming off her Account she tried calling the Sales Consultant Kenneth and he was not interested and eventually would not answer her calls.

She signed the Contract 02Oct 2016 and became distressed in December when the finances were being depleted. Princess discussed the issue with me when I noticed her eyes were swollen and she had been crying. I was horrified that a Company could exploit a person in this way. I made calls to the Sales Manager of the ROSEBANK Branch where she signed up and he was not interested in assisting and advised Princess had to make payment of a Cancellation fee of R831.00 if she wished to cancel her contract. That was Company Policy and I was told she should not have signed. I also chatted to Kenneth Nglemu the Sales Consultant who adopted another approach and requested Princess come and see him and he would see what he could do to assist. She waited at the Gym for hours for him and he immediately said he could not assist her. Today Princess went to make the payment to cancel her Contract in a very distressed state as this is a substantial amount of money to her. She paid R771.30 as this was the figure she was quoted today as it was a week later but she was advised telephonicaly if she did not make the payment today they would continue to debit her account and her Contract would not be cancelled. This is quite a situation to handle for Princess who has never signed a Contract and one she will not forget and a huge learning curve that she should not sign any document which she cannot read or understand the contents therein.

When we visited Planet Fitness Fourways to make the payment today we were there for 45mins to be assisted and the perception was that they were unsure how to handle the issue. Fortunately I approached a young lady Nodi who was returning to the Gym and she saved the day by assisting in the transaction although we still waited some time afterwards whilst her assistant tried to help.

No compassion from Planet Fitness Rosebank at all and a very distressing and disappointing experience.
