Planet Fitness Price ****

PlanetFitnes Montana quoted me R299pm for my gym contract on 2019/12/17. From 2020/01/28 they started charging me R450. I have been fighting this but no success. Even their support people (at gym and Head Office) told me that the fault is with PlanetFitness but there is nothing they can do to help me. The lady at the gym actually told me that allot of people were "caught" with this unknown price increase.

As my contract at Virgin Active approached its end date, I went to PlanetFitness (PF) at the Kolonade Pretoria to see what the gym looks like. The sales consultant, Tidimalo Maimane, approached me and we spoke about PlanetFitness’s offerings He told me that PF offers me a contract at R299 per month. This was cheaper than my contract at Virgin Active (VA). Based on the price, I agreed and signed up at PF. The sales consultant never informed me about a price increase or planned price increase. I signed my contract on 2019/12/17 for R299 per month. One month later, I was billed R450 per month!

I queried the price increase at the Gym and Head Office and got the following responses: Gym: • PF moved to the to the new premises in June 2019. The cost increased due to the new equipment and rental cost • As I get 25% discount from the full amount, I should be billed R450 • The consultant told me that I am not the only Multiply client that was “caught “ with this and there is nothing she can do for me. • The consultant also told me that they (staff at Kolonade PF) was not aware of PF main office planned price increase. She said this was forced down on them from Head Office -> I find this difficult to believe. •  This information was never shared with me when I signed my contract!!!

Head Office: • Second Phone Call 2020/11/12 • I was given the same explanation of the 25% discount and the price increase • The consultant I spoke to agreed that the mistake was made by PF but there is nothing she could do for me. • She offered me 2 months for free. I said I would accept it if I was offered 3 months free due to the mistake on PF’s part o She came back and told me they will now only give me 1 month free as I cannot be reimbursed by Multiply??? • I was told I cannot cancel my contract at the end of December, else the will charge me a cancellation fine. I still have 6 months on the contract due to Covid • She apologized and kindly let me know that there is nothing else they can do for me, even though the mistake was made by PF

Conclusion • PF sold me this contract under false pretense • I was not informed of the planned price increase a month later (a few days later) • I was quoted a monthly cost of R299 per month (after my 25% multiply discount). I rightfully assumed that this is the amount which I would pay for 12 months o How do you any case quote someone on 2019/12/17 if the price increases on 2020/01/01???????? o Any realistic person expect increases around 8-10%pa. Not 50% in 14 days • I made a decision to join PF based on the quoted price • One month later, PF became more expensive than VA! This alone is evidence that I was not made aware of the planned increase, else I would stay at VA

My Expectation • I signed my contract for R299 per month. I want to continue paying my agreed amount until the end of my contract • The money I paid extra (R450) must be credited to my account • I don’t want my contract to auto-renew at the end of the term • PF made this mistake and should accept that the error was made in their part and honor our agreement.

I would also want to know from Momentum Multiply how this can be allowed as their registered partner. Like the consultant at PF Kolonade told me, “Sir you are not the only one caught with this”. I spoke to Multiply on 2020/11/12 after I was told that PF cannot assist me. The Multiply consultant told me it is absolute nonsense that PF cannot give me 3 months gym free.

Please assist. I expect this behavior from the backstreet gym. Not a reputable name as PlanetFitness in conjunction with Momentum Multiply.
