Planet Fitness - Life Long contacts

In 2018 I lived in Durban and had signed up for a contract with Planet Fitness, however I had to relocate to Jhb in 2019, to an area with no nearby Planet Fitness. I called them and advised so, and they said there would be a cancelation fee which did not get paid and they subsequently listed me and handed over the account to a recoveries agency. In June this year I settle the account in full thinking I am done with Planet Fitness! Do I not now start getting harassed by a different recoveries company over Planet Fitness all over again?! I call these people back and they advise my PF account is overdue. I explain to them I dont have a contract there anymore, it was handed over then paid and they advise me to speak directly to PF. Which I have just done now and am LIVID!!! This consultant tells me that their contracts are auto-renewed (despite them having on record that I called years ago wanting to cancel this contract). So I ask her how she supposes I will make use of this contract as I STILL live far from PF and it is not practical, hence why I tried to cancel this membership years ago. She tells me there is nothing she can do and I am going to have to pay arrears amount for: 1. A contract I didn't sign re-up for - normal companies close an account once it has been handed over and subsequently paid - why am I stuck with this one. No one mentioned anything abt auto-renewal upon sing up 2. A contract I literally CANNOT use - as previously stated it is simply too far from home or even work. In times of COVID this company is force charging people to go to gym?! Really? I just want out and will NEVER EVER make the mistake of using Planet Fitness again, even if it is literally next door! Absolutely not ethics. Incredibly disappointed and angry! In fact they don't even deserve a rating of 1.
