Planet Fitness debit arrangement

I don't know what to do anymore. After many attempts since last year I have been trying to cancel or stop my Planet Fitness account due to Covid an financial circumstances I can not afford it. I have called Planet Fitness and all told them my story and asked either to freeze the account or please stop it as I cannot afford it. The agent that I spoke to just commented that sorry you cannot cancel the account as you are in arrears and we cannot freeze it either. So I said to them yes I know I am in arrears and trying to get back on my feet to be able to pay but no luck from the agent and was very arrogant as well. With that they handed me over to the lawyers and after how many chats with them telling them the story and saying that I have tried to cancel and stop the contract as I am trying to get on my feet no luck from them either. But hey Planet fitness is still deducting fees every single month of my account and they can see that the deduction does not go off and so they also dont phone or stop it to try and discuss what we can do. Now the lawyers send me a letter of demand where I contacted them and said i will not be paying the outstanding amount as Planet Fitness is not accommodating my requirements and still deducting money off my account after I informed them what my situation is. And I will only pay a certain amount as soon as I can and when I can.

But all they say is ok we will make a note. How do you think this is helping. Worst experience with trying to accommodate both parties and trying to get help with this matter. I am so Frustrated I can explode.
