Planet Fitness cons you into continuing membership with no visible T&C's

In May 2018, after my contract of 2 years lapsed, I requested termination of the contract due to health issues (total hip replacement). Next day I got a call from PF suggesting that I consider a 6 month freeze on my contract to determine if I would want to rejoin when my health improves. Not having had access to the "fine print", i.e. terms and conditions, as this was a phone call and I was on my way into a meeting, I concurred. The assumption was however that I would be called after 6 months to ascertain whether I wanted to continue my membership. As I have not been to the gym for more than a year by then I then forgot about the whole matter. In Dec 20`8, to my surprise I got two debit orders on my bank account, one for the monthly fee and one for the annual fee! Despite numerous calls and emails the telephonic response was "we record our conversations so you just have to pay".... What PF then does is to change the amounts in a way to circumvent to debit order blocks put in at my bank. Jan 2019 another debit order went through for the increased monthly fee, as well as the double deduction from Dec.

Despite emails specifically instructing them that I cancel the instruction to debit from my account, this falls on deaf ears and they continue. As I have not been given the opportunity to review the Terms and Conditions of the "freeze", I am of the opinion that I was conned into continuing my membership despite the written cancellation. No response from PF to this, but continue to deduct from my account.

Let this be a lesson to everyone out there - Planet Fitness employs sneaky tactics to con their members in not getting out of contracts...I am questioning the legality of the telephone conversation when the initial contract with T&C's was all done in writing, with a cool off period.
