Planet Fitness - Bad Customer service and communication skills

I signed up for a 12 Month contract. My contract ended beginning of Jan and it was confirmed telephonically that my contract will be month to month and that I do not have to pay unless I would like to go to the gym that month. The 25th of Feb I got an email from a debit collecter saying my account is in arears. I responded to the email and phoned planet fitness and they told me that even if your contract has ended you have to cancel with them.

My debit order was never even taken from my bank and I had to pay a penalty fee each month as their excuse was I had no funds in my bank account. My contact information they have is incorrect.

Do not join this gym they are pathetic and there service is the worst you can get.
