Planet Fitness

Planet Fitness was running a Black Friday special, end of November 2023. The deal was for 6 months for only R99. per month, no joining or pro rata fees. I enquired about cost for my son to use the facilities at the Planet Fitness gym during his 2 weeks visit in December 2023. The consultant explained to me the 6 months special deal @ R99 per month. I informed the consultant numerous times that I was not interested to join the gym myself, but that I wanted to treat my son during his 2 weeks visit in December 2023. I was assured by the consultant that it would be better for me to take the R99 a month deal for six months to enable my son to use the facilities at the gym on the buddy system. I was assured several times that after the six months I could decide to go on or end the deal after six months with a 20-day prior written notice, i.e. 1/12/2023 to 31/05/2024. No long-term contract was discussed nor presented by any Planet Fitness consultant, nor did I sign any contracts. I signed on their tablet to confirm my bank details for the debit order @ R99 per month. I was informed that I had to go to the Planet Fitness gym to pay and to receive my gym tag. At the gym I signed a addendum form for the Buddy system to enable my son to enjoy the facilities at the gym during his visit.

An amount of R198 was deducted from my account at the end of December and on 25/01/2024. On enquiring about the amount, I was informed that the contract was for 22 months with an extra R99 a month. A 22-month contract was never discussed with me, and I was not informed about it. After my telephone enquiry, I send Planet fitness a mail to inform them that I did not sign on a 22-month contract and that the debit order must be for R99 a month. I received a copy of a contract that was never discussed, nor seen or signed by me, where my signature was copied and pasted on without my consent. I received a mail from their customer services informing me that I am liable for Settlement fee amount of R2392 to be paid within the next 24 hours or that settlement fee amount will be debited from my bank account on debit order if they do not receive the EFT Payment. Planet Fitness has also placed a debi check on my bank account for different amounts and has also presented several debit orders with different amounts that was declined and incurred excessive bank cost. Furthermore, I have lodged a complaint to the Goods and Services ombudsman. They just forwarded my complaint to Planet Fitness customer service, and I have received several responses from Planet Fitness customer with different accumulating settlement amounts. I only signed in to the gym once and that was to sign my son in as a visitor. I have not attended any classes / sessions at Planet Fitness gym, nor have I used any of their facilities. I have honoured my six months deal of R99 per month as was the arrangement. Is there anybody that I can contact to assist me with this *******ion.

Planet Fitness salespeople deceiving the public to make sales:
Thank you for the reply, but the problem nor the complaint has been resolved. The response from Planet Fitness is an auto generated so called customer support response that I received on all my queries. I deem this auto generated customer support response from Planet Fitness as an insult and as a prove of their *******, ******* way of making money. I have noticed similar complaints on several platforms regarding Planet Fitness salespeople deceiving the public to make sales.
As stated before, a contract of 22 months was never discussed with me. I refuse to accept the forged contract, because it was never communicated, received, nor signed by me.
My signature for my bank details for the six months deal was copied and pasted on a contract that I never received, nor signed. I stated specifically to both the consultants at their marketing booth that I was not interested in going to the gym myself and would only take the six months deal for the duration of my son's visit to South Africa as a gift. I have not been to the gym, nor have I used any of their facilities or equipment.
I seriously cannot believe that they insist on a settlement fee on a contract that was forged by them. Furthermore, they debited my bank account with different amounts ranging from R2800 without any communication, although the deal was for R99 a month for six months.
Good luck in contacting them, they only reply with the same auto generated customer support response:
