Misleading “Trial”, Unfair Pricing, and Harassment Over Fees – Avoid

I joined Planet Fitness (Centurion branch) in November 2025, and the experience has been nothing short of frustrating.

From the start, there was zero transparency. I was quoted around R900/month, while someone right next to me was clearly paying almost half of that. The only difference? I’m a foreigner. No proper explanation, no flexibility, nothing. That already didn’t sit right.

I made it very clear to the staff that I travel frequently due to my work in aviation and that a long-term gym contract wouldn’t work for me. I explicitly said I was not interested in committing. The consultant then told me I could “try it for a month” and decide. Based on that, I agreed.

He took all my details, had me sign documents (which were clearly not explained properly), and I paid an upfront fee. I used the gym for about two weeks. That’s it.

Then things got ridiculous.

I later received a call demanding around R2,000 in “overdue fees.” For what exactly? I wasn’t even using the gym anymore. I had already made it clear that I wouldn’t continue.

Now, it has escalated to harassment from a collections company demanding nearly R4,000, adding so-called “recovery fees.” This is completely unacceptable.

What kind of business model is this? You lure people in with a “trial,” push them into signing unclear agreements, and then chase them with inflated fees when they don’t continue?

On top of that, the Centurion branch itself is not worth the price: • Equipment is outdated • No swimming pool • Definitely not worth R900/month

The staff may be polite, but the system behind it feels deliberately misleading.

I will not be paying these unjustified charges, and I’m fully prepared to take this further through the appropriate consumer protection channels if needed.

Final verdict: Avoid Planet Fitness, especially Centurion branch. Misleading practices and aggressive collections are not worth it.
