Misleading Advertising & Website for Planet Fitness
I joined Discovery Vitality due to the 75% discount applicable when joining Planet Fitness. Recently I have seen marketing placed at the Burgundy Centre advertising club fees of R299*, their website Terms * Conditions mention R250 membership fees, under their Club schedules for Plattekloof it reflects R237*. So, while all the above fees refer to their respective Terms and Conditions, there is a lack of transparency that the above fees are subject to a member having Discovery Vitality as their respective partner. When calling to discuss joining, the sales agent told me the monthly fee is R949 per month.
There is no indication, as per my discussion with the Sales Manager (Robert Nzra - who initially refused to give me his surname until I mentioned I will be reporting this to the CPA), that each gym has different fees, that the T&C's are including normal fees which is not the case.
Every single level of adverti*****t is misleading as it clearly reflects the fee of +-R300 to join, yet there is no indication on their website to indicate what the standard/normal monthly fees are, that the fees indicated above is subject to being a member of Vitality in order to qualify for this fee, nor that normal fees apply after an initial joining period such as 3 months which was indicated by the Sales Manager.
They lure you in with misleading advertising, incomplete or lack of transparent T&C's on their own website, with no clear view of what the potential fee structure would be for non-Vitality members which means they are purposefully misleading potential members by omitting this information. IF I could attach images, I would.
The Sales Manager indicated he knew the Consumer Protection Act but could not provide me with any information on his T&Cs that spoke directly to any of the points above. How does one explain that the gym fee is more than 75% higher than the advertised monthly fees without any clear indication, notification, written information pertaining to this on their respective website supporting the actual expected or club fees as he indicated i.e. that gyms (within their group) differ so significantly.
Their websites T&C's, FAQ's lack clear and defined information simply to bring clients into the gym and then show said pricing that should be available online via their own website.
I am lodging a formal complaint with the NCC.
