**** to by a Sales Consultant and ******* into a binding contract

On 16 February, my partner and I went to Planet Fitness Queenswood to enquire about the Gautrain Promotion that was running at the time. Upon signing up for my Planet Fitness Membership, I requested the Gautrain promotion sign up that would only be valid for a month after which you decide whether or not you wish to sign up for a 1 year membership. I liked the idea of this as I just started at a new job and wanted to see if we could really get the time to go to the gym. The sales representative however informed us that it would be better to sign up on their new student promotion which is a two month free membership during which you can cancel at any time. However, my probation period at my new job has expired now and due to the strain caused on the economy due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I have been given notice, in other words I am retrenched.

Needless to say, I have to cancel my membership and according to the Planet Fitness Sales consultant who signed me up, I can cancel my membership at any time during the 2 month free period - I was assured of this repetitively. Only to find out that the fine printed gym contract states that I only have 5 days (NOT 2 MONTHS) to cancel this membership.

In conclusion, a member of the Planet Fitness Sales team has **** to us upon signing up, regarding the cancellation period. What do I stand to do now? Every single staff member of every different club is giving me complete opposite advice, contradicting one another, in terms of this cancellation / cooling down period and freezing period, and I just keep on getting referred to the call centre agents who are of no help to me either, in getting to the bottom of this. Please - can someone kindly assist in getting these memberships cancelled? I cannot possibly be held liable for payment if an Employee of Planet fitness has informed me otherwise.
