lack of information from Planet fitness

i few months ago,i lost my job and wanted to cancel my contract with the gym but i was told that i had to pay a cancellation which was not in the contract which i signed,why must i pay a cancellation fee,and yet expect me to pay them after assigning a debt collection to me which automatically means that I'm blacklisted now(stand to be correct),so can i please have help with this matter
