Today was my first time bringing my child to Planet Fitness Greenstone, and it was by far the worst gym experience I’ve ever had.

I arrived around 6:00 pm and left at 6:20 pm because of what happened in the kids’ play area. There was only one young staff member supervising the children, and she clearly had no experience or patience when it comes to childcare. She repeatedly shouted at the kids for making noise — which is completely unrealistic, as they are children.

My son is two years old, and it was his first time there, so naturally he cried a little. Instead of comforting him or trying to engage with him, the staff member remained seated the entire time and made no effort to help. She even asked me what grade my son is in, which clearly shows a lack of basic understanding of child development.

After I eventually convinced her to pick up my son so I could attend the Body Conditioning class with Carlos, I had not even entered the class yet when she followed me and told me to come back because my son was crying. By the time we returned to the play area, my son had already stopped crying — yet the damage was done. I was so upset and uncomfortable that I no longer felt like attending the class.

I am extremely concerned about why Planet Fitness is hiring staff with no childcare training to look after members’ children. I honestly doubt this staff member is even trained in basic emergency CPR, which is frightening as a parent.
