Hidden levy costs

I signed up for the special R199 for 6 months and then it would move to R449, I was reassured by the sales representative and sales manager that there were no hidden fees that were going to pop up as there was no joining fee, I only had to pay for the tag. Surprise surprise all of a sudden a levy fee has been deducted 3 months later. Had I been told this upfront I still would have signed up but the fact that I wasn't I don't feel I should. I have also been informed by the manager of the gym that I am one of many who have complained about the same situation.
