Hidden costs and false advertising

In Mid December I received an SMS 2 days before my debit order for my gym fee of an "annual levy" would be deducted along with my gym membership fee. No explanation of how much it would be and not once in the year and half I had already signed up and been with Planet Fitness was this stipulated. Come to find out the fee is R1500 which is an enormous amount and I have refused to pay for it, since I was not informed correctly nor ever was it stipulated. Communication was subpar and when I tried to cancel not only am I expected to pay it but also a cancelation fee.
