False advertising

I had a year contract with the gym, I attended daily and making payment each month, until the beginning of this year I no longer received debit orders assuming that my contract has ended, with this I had received no contact until a few months ago I was contacted from their attorneys telling me I'm in arrears, after explaining to them no money has being taken off I agreed to make a payment of R100 to settle the payment. about 2 months ago I started receiving debit orders for my gym contract, so now I'm paying even more than before I contacted them and explained I could not afford especially during this time of the pandemic, things are tough financially. they told me I can pay R1600 to cancel the contract, how will I be able to afford that if I cant make a payment of R300, I was not even advised when my contract would eventually end, this is honestly ridiculous - please advise.
