False Advertising

On the 23rd of Decemeber, I spoke to Rodreck, who was doing a promotion for Planet Fitness in Menlyn Shopping Center. Rodreck told me that if I signed right then and there, I would only have to pay R100 for my tag and that I will be getting my membership for January and February free, pay R299 for March, April and May and thereafter the usual fee of R549 per month. Along with that I will also only pay R150 per month for the additional black tag. He also told me that I could use this offer at any of their clubs, so I opted for Centurion Gate as this is a Mega Club closest to where I live.

I then paid him R100 cash and I was told that he would then load all of my credentials on the system and that I only have to go to Centurion Gate to collect my tag. I was very excited to start the new year with a gym membership.

This morning (28 December - after all the holidays) I went to Centurion Gate to collect my tag and finalize the process. Upon getting there, I was told that I only have a local membership at Menlyn. I then showed the receptionist at Centurion Gate the copy of the contract that I have signed which specifies Centurion Gate as my local club. We then called the call centre and they were willing to transfer my contract to Centurion Gate as was initially agreed. The call centre agent then informed that the rates specified on my contract were incorrect and that I would have to pay R299 from January already, not getting the first 2 months free and then pay R599 per month. At this point I had the agent cancel my contract.

I then followed up with the Menlyn Branch sales manager who told me that that promotion is only available for Menlyn. I then drove back to Menlyn Mall to speak to Rodreck in person, where he is currently still promoting the same special. He told me that they have authority to present the promotion as originally agreed upon for ANY Planet Fitness. He proudly told me that he has presented this offer for clients as far as Witbank.

I am curently waiting for another manager to call me so that I can get the promotion as was originally advertised to me at the club of my choosing.
