Dispute over an account that was closed 5 years ago.

About 4 months ago I think I received a call from someone claiming that I had an outstanding balance on my Planet Fitness account which I closed about 4-5yrs ago. I immediately thought this was a **** as the person on the phone was very quick to hang up the phone when I said that's impossible.

I then received an SMS today from lawyers that I need to pay my outstanding amount for my PF account. I immediately called Planet Fitness to find out what's going on. They informed me that in 2017 I had called to close my account but I never paid the cancellation fee, which I find extremely strange that I wouldn't have made sure the account is paid up. What is also strange is that I never received any debits or any phone calls or any emails or any letters about any outstanding amount. Instead I receive a phone call from lawyers almost 5 years later. This is crazy.

I called the lawyers (NIMBLE Group) to find out what the amount was as the lady at Planet Fitness was unable to see on their system. The amount was R900 something which I find also weird considering that I'm being accused of never closing my account and missing all my debits for years.

I going to pay this amount purely because I do not have the time to do all the admin of trying to resolve this issue. I would have to get bank statements from years ago from a bank I'm no longer with and apparently I have to go into Planet Fitness to listen to the recordings of the calls I made in 2017. I'm a contract worker and get paid by the hour and I'll ultimately lose money from trying to resolve this.

Like I said, I'm going to pay this purely because it will work out cheaper for me but giving money to "lawyers" for an account that I know I closed years ago feels very much like a **** to me. I'm writing this review in hope that somebody from Planet Fitness can follow up on this for me and try and help me resolve this issue without me having to phone around whole day and go into the offices.
