Disappointed by Planet Fitness

hi, im a little disappointed by PF. my contract was due to end in July 2020, im on Vitality. Due to the pandemic, there was no debit going off since March 2020. ok thats 5 months until they re-opened. Now they are saying that they have extended the contract, im not sure as to why they dont offer the option to have us just repay the months that were not debited off our accounts. If i want to cancel the contract im told to pay some crazy amount
