****** and Contracts not being cancelled when opted to be cancelled

I cancelled my contract with the agent that i dealt with back in late 2018, early 2019 with the reason that due to some financial issues and transportation problems i cannot afford the gym membership. He then advised me he will sort everything out and that there is a cancelation fee, i then asked that once everything is sorted that he send me through what the cancelation fee will be knowing that i only had a 12months contract. After weeks of trying i simply stopped receiving responses. Today after almost 3 years i get a call from their lawyers that i owe them R3500. But not once in this whole time did i receive 1 phone call or email regarding the account or even the outcome of my cancelation. So i accepted that after 12 months of not hearing anything from them,nor any debit orders from my bank account that my contract was cancelled. These guys are ******...
