Charged for additional month even after requesting cancellation

<p>I had taken up a 6 months gym contract with planet fitness in Newcastle. I clearly explained to the consultant that I am not sure how long I would be in Newcastle hence the 6 months agreement. Now after the 6 months I tried canceling my contract at the gym in Newcastle and I was told to call the call center or log a query. I logged a query and waited for them to contact me. Now that they have contacted I am told I have to pay an additional 2 months before my contract can be cancelled. When I took out the contract the consultant never mentioned anything about auto renewal and neither about calling a call center to have my membership cancelled. To my knowledge at the end of the 6 months was the end of the contract. Reading through other reviews I see I am not the only one to experience this problem. Plain and simple planet fitness is a thieving franchise with people trained to sign you on but *********** to advice about cancellations; this could be due to commissions for any new member joining. My advice to people looking to join a gym please look for alternatives steer clear from planet fitness.</p>
