Cancellation fee outrageous

Around the beginning of January 2017, I started a new membership based off how much I thought I would receive from my first salary. After receiving my first paycheck I realised I got out a lot less than I bargained on. Upon this realisation, I decided to cancel my membership as I could no longer afford it. I called the call centre and asked what my cancellation fee would be. The lady quoted me R1 425.10 for cancelling my subscription. This is outrageous considering that they make no losses, they have not provided me with any products or services in order to make a loss. According to my knowledge and understanding of my contract, I am supposed to pay two monthly subscription fees as my cancellation fee, which would total to R600, max R900. I believe the amount they're charging for a cancellation fee for a membership that was an impulsive decision based off a misconception of a to-be salary, is ridiculous.
