I am writing to formally complain about my experience with Planet Fitness, specifically the Parkdene branch.

When I signed up, I was assisted by a staff member named Alfred. He informed me that my monthly fee would be R199 plus a Buddy Tag fee of R99, making the total monthly debit order R299. However, R598 was deducted from my account without my consent or prior explanation.

I visited the Planet Fitness Brakpan branch several times to request that my email address be updated, as I was not receiving any correspondence. Each time I was told that this would be done, but it was never corrected. As a result, I only received my contract much later, and it was never properly explained to me at the time of signing. Alfred insisted that I sign without going through the contract with me.

I also contacted Planet Fitness customer support for assistance. Unfortunately, the consultant who assisted me was extremely unprofessional and unhelpful, which added to my frustration.

I have not used the gym at all since signing up, yet I have been denied a full refund despite the incorrect charges, lack of transparency, and poor service I have received.

It is very concerning that customers are required to sign contracts that contain clauses designed to protect the company rather than ensure fair treatment of members. Based on my experience, I would caution others to be very careful before signing with Planet Fitness
