Beware of Planet Fitness contracts - there is a month to month option that they dont tell you about

BEWARE OF THEIR "CONTRACTS". There is a month to month option available which I was NEVER made aware of. As a lot of South Africans, we have had a financial hit to our income due to salary reductions because of Covid 19. I called Planet Fitness to cancel our membership as we view this as a luxury expense and something we simply cannot afford any longer. When I called them they said because I was still inside of my "contract term" I would need to pay almost R4500.00 cancellation fee. I simply do not have that kind of money and therefore will have no choice but to continue to pay for something I cannot afford. If you plan on joining Planet Fitness ask them about the month to month option before signing anything. This is the only way they will accept a 30 day cancellation option without charging you a kidney!!!! In times like these, I think it is disgraceful that such a large company will not assist struggling South Africans to reduce debt. Thanks Planet Fitness, you *****ed me over big time. To think I would have considered signing up again when we were on better footing in the future. You can forget that now.
