Auto-renew or Auto-*****?

I have a foot injury and have not been to Planet Fitness in at least 2 years. Every month the debit order goes off my account and I just let it be. Today I decided I am going to cancel this contract that I never use, and hear for the very first time that the contract is on a 12 month auto-renew contract and I will have to pay in R1500. Well, I am sorry. This is exactly why people get warned against gym memberships. This is ****************. If PF see that I have not been there in 2 years, why auto-renew my contract?
