Arrogant and Aggressive Personal Trainer
My review isn't so much about the gym itself, but rather the staff and type of people this specific branch hires. The gym itself is beautiful and functions well, especially after the renovations (Ruimsig Branch) but you can't have such perfection as a building but a few extremely arrogant or "bizarre" staff members that makes your entire experience uncomfortable, to say the least.
The one specific staff member I would like to bring into light is one of the "personal trainers", I don't know his name but if you know him, my description will be sufficient and I'm absolutely sure that I'm not the only one who has encountered his absolute arrogance and disregard for others.
My husband told me not to comment or say anything as I will be seen as a "Karen", but isn't that the exact problem with this generation that we are living in, people are so quick to just accept "bad behavior" because nobody has the time or capacity to do anything about it and if you speak up, you risk being "called out" and things turning on you and the ACTUAL problem doesn't get resolved and people keep getting away with things. (Take taxi's for example, we all just accept their reckless and erratic driving due to "fear" as well as NOTHING ever being done, so we just take it and adjust our lives for our own safety and the safety of our loved ones)
Yesterday upon entering the gym, I first sent my husband a voice note letting him know I have arrived safely at the gym and to "vent" about the arrogance of one of the personal trainers. 1stly he came speeding in the parking lot, around 7 am, almost making contact with me as I was crossing and parks in the paralyzed parking, right infront of the entrance, at first I left it, assuming someone in the car "could've been physically disabled", but 2 extremely fit, extremely well built, extremely healthy people climb out the car and slowly and without any shame of where they are parked, gradually get their things to make their way in the gym. I immediately went to the receptionist and asked her if he was allowed to park there, at 1st, she was visibly confused and had no idea what I was talking about (proving my point, people are so numb or ******** to things that aren't right / fair), so I broke it down for her into bullet points, after she realized what I was saying she said no and walked off, than going to him as he was signing in, she than has the audacity to point me out as the 1 calling him out for his arrogance, while I'm walking away to do my session. After using the downstairs floor, I went up, to see that he finally had moved his vehicle. I described this man in detail and his vehicle to my husband and that's when he immediately called me and asked if I remember when he told me he had an incident outside the gym on a quiet Saturday morning a couple of weeks back, he never went into any detail because at the time, in his mind it was insignificant, but now he was worried about me, knowing how this man handles conflict as well as frustrated about this man's absolute arrogance and lack of ability to learn a lesson.
When I got home he in detail told me what happened on that day, hence me bringing this to your attention because of the seriousness. I mean, someone so perfectly built and capable, so clearly disability free and even worse so, a staff member (who in my opinion should be more vigilant and mindful of their place of work and the members they "represent" - the "image") did the EXACT same thing, he parked in the disabled parking spot, when most of the parking lot was empty and the 2 spots directly next to that 1, right infront of the door were also empty. So my husband approached him and asked him to move his vehicle out of respect for those who ACTUALLY need that space and pointed to the 2 places right next to him, his response was something along the lines of "seriously, don't start with THIS so early in the morning", to which my husband told him why it's such a big deal to him as 2 years ago he just stopped using his wheelchair, upgraded to crutches and now can walk without any aid (after have been told he will be in a wheelchair his entire life), so he has been coming to the gym to strengthen his body and stretch out his muscles following a major motorcycle accident, having many operations and has been working so hard to get to where he is today, if you look at his legs, he is only starting to "get" legs now after having muscle dystrophy (just to name 1 of his many struggles) He was in a wheelchair for 2 or so years following the accident and we lived through the struggle and inconvenience of people who don't care for or have consideration for anyone but themselves. From struggling with parking and the wheelchair (I'm also extremely tiny, I'm 154 in height) so I couldn't always help my husband, to the wheelchair friendly bathrooms being used by people who could use normal stalls and so forth, so this is purely a principle for my husband as he knows and understands the struggle. After my husband told his story and what he had been through, hoping to trigger some empathy or understanding in the trainer (that he can remember his face and think of him and his story and never do that again in the future), instead of JUST moving his car, the trainer chooses to attempt to tackle my husband (what the actual hell, literally right after the guy tells you how he was disabled and the struggle he went through and the many procedures he had, etc, etc, etc; the trainers "logical" response was to attack him - seriously!?) Is this how conflict handling is taught when the staff is employed? If you don't like a situation and you don't get your way, throw a tantrum and solve the problem physically??? Yes, you are a personal trainer, you are very strong, we can see you take very good care of yourself and you care about materialistic things with your fancy car and general look and attitude, well done, but what are you trying to prove by attacking a client, right infront of the entrance of your place of work??? My husband is a very proud man, probably why he never told me the full story right in the beginning. But as the trainer was running, bent over (asif positioned to "rugby tackle" my husband), my husband was on the side walk, having the height advantage, he stepped back and when the trainer basically lost balance because of the sidewalk and poor judgment, my husband just pushed him down, where he stayed and instead of continuing to fight, my husband just picked his bag back up and walked inside, told the receptionist to tell the trainer to move his car and proceeded with his training.
The reason my husband was concerned about me was because this guy clearly doesn't care, he is willing to attack a man who basically has sticks for legs (his upper body is obviously strong, but not his legs) and just told him he is recovering from being declared disabled (he is literally a walking miracle, he is doing things what the Dr's told him he will never do again), who is to say he won't attack a woman, given the right circumstances???
Did he not learn his lesson the 1st time? Does this not prove that people keep getting away with wrong things because no one ever says anything... Well, I'm speaking up for the disabled people who just accept it because it's a losing battle and because I am now also unsure that the trainer will just drop the situation because the receptionist HAD TO point me out.
