Why lie about warranty?

Bought an rpi 3 from PiShop. When I plugged it in, the keyboard and mouse did not work. I let them know about it. They said that they would replace it if it was clear that I didn't break it. Courier picked it up. PiShop let me know that I broke the USB ports, even though the "technician's" photographs clearly show that a defective USB port caused a short. Now I have to pay shipping to get the thing back. Why lie about being willing to replace defective units? They say that the units are tested at the factory and therefore if you find it not to be working, you broke it. But why lie about having any sort of after-sale service? You just end up costing your customers more money.
