Animal Abuse and Neglect

Good day,

I went into your store on Sa****ay after hearing about your African Grey Parrot that has received neglect and abuse your pet store Pet Masters Alberton. He needs serious medical attention which has been denied to him. Please below information of the incident and photos/video.

He/She is a 2 year old Timneh African Grey, the owner abandoned it your pet store to be sold and was kept in the outside aviaries since last year October/November. When my partner came home this week he told me the same African Grey was still there but it's eyes were puffy and it was sick sick, along with a ****atoo they had outside as well. Arriving at Pet Masters in Sa****ay morning, I went outside in the rain to the aviary and saw him sitting in the floor in the rain. He was blind as his eyes are heavily swollen and cloudy, he has thick mucus coming out his nose, severely thin and suffering from hypothermia. Chances are he hasn't eaten in several days as he cannot see/fly. I immediately went to the manage and demanded an explanation. He told me he knew and that African Greys get over this in a few days hence why they just left him. After crying and throwing a fit that sick animals should IMMEDIATELY be given medical treatment, good intake monitored/given and have sheltered warmth - the manager brought him in with a fish net, where they placed him in a tiny bird cage. They promised me to take him to the vet at 1pm that day to Dr Blandermen ? In Boksburg. I told them what they have done is abuse and neglect and I demand to take him for rehab and immediate vet care as he is on the verge of death in which I will accommodate for all the medical bills. They said no, I must pay R1.5. I was appalled that such a disgustingly sick animal needs immediate care and they only care for their pocket regardless of the state of the animal they sell.

On Sunday, I went to the Pet Masters store. I immediately went to the back room in the corner of the store where I saw him on the floor, hidden behind a cage with a box of baby ****atiels, in the same tiny cage, diarrhea everywhere, no food, no water, no heater, no light.

I found the manger and asked if he had been taken to the vet? The manager said YES, they took him, they gave him an injection and he is there AT THE VET staying till Monday. I asked if the African Grey then hidden at the back was a different one then, in which he stumbled to say he got confused and no he is back, they just gave him an injection and the vet will call tomorrow to check up. I own a couple greys myself and know without a vets confirmation that if his eyes look cloudy and/or have a discharge coming from them, he may be affected by a respiratory, nervous, or muscular disorder. He NEEDS to be rushed to the vet as soon as possible as he bird needs immediate treatment and in house vet care for minimum a week. Conclusion: they **** about the whereabouts of the grey, he wasn't taken to a vet for medical care and they still have him in atrocious conditions with no rights to food or water or warmth.

This parrot and all the other animals need to be confiscated from such dispicable ownership.

Just to follow up on this. SPCA was notified. They went to the store on the Tuesday, Bird had still NOT been taken for medical care. After inspection, they said that he had a upper respiratory infection and had been left too long without proactive vet care... he passed away that afternoon. SO SO disappointed. If I had taken him on the Sa****ay for IMMEDIATE medical care, a life could have been saved. But they refused to give him to me unless I pay! DISGUSTED!! I'm filing another report as a ****atoo at the back is starting to have the same symptoms, another parrot is losing all his feathers, and a ****atoo in the front needs to have hi beak filled down as he cant eat now... what s SHAMFUL, DISPICABLE store! I will never in my life support this place with one cents but ensure that it is SHUT DOWN. I don't support abuse and neglect.
