***** Dotsure

Do not touch this company with a barge pole. Dotsure Pet Insurance contacted me to sell me a policy in April 2023 - the consultant was someone called Dominic. He explained various options to me and you can clearly hear him in the first voice clip (15th April 2023) talking about accidental, and illness cover in the same breath. In other words I believe that when he sold me on the policy 9 days later (24th April 2023) he deliberately confused me using words like cancer, tick bite fever, snake bite versus an accident with third party liability. He also captured the age of Max as 2 plus years old. That is completely impossible as when I adopted Max he was around the age of 7.

I had never used the policy and when I became concerned about an abscess - the Vet gave him antibiotics for 7 days and said if he does not get better it is likely he will need surgery. I called in to ask what the process is to claim, how much cover I have etc. and then the consultant Annemi said I won't be covered as I only have accidental cover. She seemed to have been trained on this tactic as she made zero effort to fully hear what I was saying.

In short I agreed that I did not check the policy wording but I believe in terms of the Consumer Protection Act I was deliberately sold a product I did not need. Covering a miniature Dachshund like Max for something crazy like a "snake bite" would have made no sense. I lived in an apartment on the third floor in a very urban area at the time. He would have more chances of "falling pregnant"....

I also believe that these consultants are trained on how to confuse accidents, with illness on purpose. Now that I needed to claim there was every excuse in the book. The bottom line is I asked their internal legal department to listen to the voice clips and see whether they think if what was done was fair.

Needless to say they referred me to not having read the policy document thoroughly (Joel Slinger). I did inform them that I would have no choice but to report this to the ombudsman and detail my experience on Google reviews and Hello Peter as I would not want any potential customer to have the experience I had. I have also cancelled the policy effective 31st October 2025.

In short this was pet insurance. The cost of the op was R3 200.00. They sell various insurance products including vehicle cover. Can you imagine if you write your car off and you owe R150 000.00 on it? Don't take that chance. It is not worth it. They will do "letter of the law, not sprit of the law." And if you are not a Lawyer run far away and fast - that is all I can say...
