The owner lies and ‘doesn’t give a damn about women’

Took in four jerseys to Personal Cleaners (Fish Hoek) agents in Simons Town in June 2021. Three came back with a dress. I told them of the problem within half an hour and returned the dress. The owner of Personal Cleaners (Fish Hoek) took all the details of the missing jersey. The next day my 90-year old mother phoned to check on progress. The owner slammed down the phone on her. His own agents said he often behaved like this. Inn their words, he had ‘attitude’. I went around to the shop in Fish Hoek and left a written message for the owner to phone me back. He ignored me. One week later I went around and left another message. Ignored again. One week later I went around again and he came to meet me. This is where the lying started. Lie 1: He said he never phoned back because he thought I was the woman who phoned. His assistant confirmed that she had given him both messages and told him Mr Campbell had come around. He knew! Lie 2: He said the woman on the phone was ‘rude so he slammed down the phone’. Four women, two of his own agents, confirmed this was a blatant lie. Lie 3: He said he would compensate me for the loss but when the conversation got heated he said he would not.

Even more disturbing, when confronted with his lies, he said (on record) that ‘doesn’t give a damn about women’. Surely most of his customers are women, so does he really ‘give a damn’ about his customers? When he told him that I had recorded our conversation and would let others know of his behaviour, he said he didn’t ‘give a damn’ what I write about him. Well, I ‘give a damn’. Every social media group and WhatsApp group in his catchment will know about this. People can’t be treated this way.
