I am renting an apartment through Permanent Trust since April 2019. This property has pipe issues and all the walls are damp and have been molding ever since Winter has started. I was not aware of this until my children and I got very ill from this mold. All the walls and even my furniture are covered in mold. I have had to get rid of curtains, our beds, clothes etc because of the mold damage and have been instructed by my DR to move as the unit is a health hazard. I am also sitting with the electricity that keeps on tripping because the wires are damp and my alarm system keeps on going off because of the wetness on the sensor wires. I have been complaining and complaining and my costs for damages I have had I have tried to claim it back from Permanent trust but this is now the second month they have shown no assistance. I keep on complaining and have lodged a complaint with the rent tribunal but this is a very long process and I am still waiting on them. I have also spoken to 2 lawyers and a couple of rental agents but because of the severity of this case no one wants to actually get involved by sending them an instruction letter. I have been ill and now been put on chronic medication for acute bronchitis as well as my kids - this is disgusting to say the least! I have asked them to move me over to a different unit but I can only move in end October. Untill then my kids and I suffer and cannot even sleep in our bedrooms. I had to purchase new beds etc as our previous beds were molded. I am disgusted in the non service I have received from Permanent Trust. They are not re-imbursing me for my damages and I have sent a couple of emails and can shout and beg I receive no feedback. Once again this morning I sent an email where upon I was answered that the landlord is still busy with my account???? It has now been 2 months but nothing has happened. the only thing that was done was that they sent a plumber from Detect a leak to the unit whereupon this plumber said the landlord must install air vents because this is also a problem. The previous tenant left because of this problem and she also complained and received no assistance. I am furious at this moment and stay in a health hazard unit and the landlord couldnt care if a fire breaks out because of the damp wires or if this can be fatal to us because of the health severity. I only want them to re-imburse me and to show some assistance end to not deduct my deposit when I move out. Our lives have been terrible these last few months and I have to sit at work sick. My chest cannot take this strain anymore. I am hoping that the lawyers and rent tribunal will come back to me to take this situation on as I must now pay R2750 to have my wifi moved. R550 to have my dish moved and R1500 to have my alarm moved. Why must I carry these costs? I have had many expenses now because of this. I have plenty photographs and Dr Notes if requested. My next step will be to contact the health inspector and a journalist, seeing that I am getting no where with PT....
