Online ordering a waste of time

I have placed an order with Perkal Gifts online on the 15th of July 2015 for 12 different items, which according to their system was in stock. The lady responded on the 17th of July stating that some of the stuff was not available. I responded to cancel that part of the order. After no response since then, I phoned them asking what the status is of my order today, 29 July. The lady stated over the phone that out of all 12 of the items ordered, only 1 was available.
How do these online systems work - stating that stuff is available, but when you order them they are not.... If something is not available they should not even be allowed to put it onto their website.

I am sorry for your experience here. It is difficult with 50000 to keep everything 100% up to date 100% of the time despite us having 3 full time developers. Additionally stock availability is a fluid think, changing literally every few seconds. As such we have marked in red any products on the site which have very low stock or are in the process of having pricing updated and I do see that your sales rep had mentioned numerous times to you to "Remember when browsing the site to please focus on products which have pricing in GREEN only. The products with pricing in RED are sold out and in the process of being removed from the site"

Despite all this we do strive to update all more quickly and appreciate your feedback.
