Receipt issue

I bought a school trouser for my child and lost my receipt when I took it back because it was a smaller size I was told that I could not do that regardless of that the price tag and plastic bag were there as proof of that I purchased at PEP this was at the pep store at 8460 Johannesburg.

I do not understand how can this be a problem now I had to boost their sales with me buying another trouser.
