Pathetic Customer Service from Pep
I went to Pep in Delft Mall, Cape Town this morning to purchase a cellphone. At the store a staff member informed me that I needed a proof of address and ID document. I did not have a proof of address so I was told that the store cannot sell me a phone without it. I went back to my car to check if I had a any documents that I could use as a proof of address. I found a stamped hand written letter from my doctor with my name and address on it. Back at the store the manager refused to accept the letter as a proof of address because it was hand written. I asked if he would have accepted it if it was typed out. He did not reply to my question but insisted that I get a letter from my bank or a copy of my property rates account. I left the mall and drove back to work. I called Pep customer care to enquire why they would not accept a hand written letter as a proof of address. The customer service agent I spoke to said that the manager should have accepted my proof of address. She said that they would call the store to speak to the manager and that I should go back to the store to purchase the phone. I told her that I was already at work and that I was not going back. She insisted that I go back to purchase the phone. I agreed and drove back to the store. At the store the manager said that he was contacted about the issue but that he could not help me because I had a hand written letter. The customer service agent phoned me again while I was talking to the manager to ask if I was able to purchase the phone. I told her that the manager still would not accept my proof of address. She asked to speak to the manager. After speaking to her the manager said that he was going to call the area manager for authorisation. According to the store manager the area manager said that my hand written letter was not a valid proof of address. I left feeling disappointed and angry as they asked me to return to the store with a promise that I would be assisted, but all they did was waste my time and petrol to be humiliated by their arrogant staff. I called Pep customer care again to complain to them about sending me back to the store without first confirming that I would be assisted. I was then told by the agent that they did not call me or tell me to go back to the store. I could not believe that they would deny calling me. I was so angry I just ended the call. What pathetic service is this?
