No prior warning by cashiers

On the 31st of January 2021, I went to Pep (The Glen) and made a layby for clothes of around R650 to R700 in preparation for winter. I deposited R150 for the clothes knowing I had about 3 months to release the clothes' .I was never advised by the cashier that I must deposit a certain amount every month so that I can get the clothes by April .The expiry date of the layby is 31st of April 2021. Today I could not get the clothes as the layby was cancelled as per the cashier. I suppose I lost the R150 as well. Are your cashiers restricted not to advise customers about the " deposit every month rule" before we make laybys? or customers must figure out this own their own? I seriously regret going the layby route I should have paid cash or saved till I have the full amount. How can I get the list or a copy of receipt and the total amount I was supposed to pay on the 31st. lost my receipt and had an ID card only. Is the way to recover this layby?
