Negligent PEP store

I would like to bring to your attention that I was injured at the PEP store located at Musgrave Centre Durban on Saturday 02/10/2021 in the afternoon.

A steel sign fell on my leg and I was bruised badly. I am extremely disappointed that: 1. That particular hazardous sign was even being used to begin with. 2. That Pep staff was so inefficient and unbothered.

When the sign hit me I yelled out because of the pain, I was loud enough to get the staff’s attention, however they just stared at me blankly as I was left crying tears from the pain. A few minutes passed with no action from the staff instead they carried on with their business.

The hazardous sign was not removed immediately as it should have been, instead someone from the staff rolled a few trollies in-front if it (still paying no mind to me). Eventually one of the ladies at the till ordered another to come see to me. The lady approached me and also did not know what to do. She disappeared saying she is going to look for a first aid kit. I was left unattended for additional 5-10 min until my friend completed her purchase. When my friend realized what had happened she questioned the staff about who was seeing to me. They again looked at us blankly. We decided to leave, as I limped out of the door the ‘first aid’ lady ran towards us with a gauge. I was badly bruised so when I asked her what this would help me with she didn’t know what to say.

My details were not written down, I was not given any customer service numbers to call or email. It was like I was never even there. The worst part is that I had my 4year old son with me and thankfully I had him held tightly in front of me. If that sign had hit his little leg I can’t imagine the damage that would have been done.

It’s one thing for a store to be so negligent as to be using faulty signs and equipment instead of reporting them and getting them fixed. What I am most disgusted by is the lack of empathy after I was injured. A grown woman crying and just not a care in the world was given.

I would like to know what Pep is going to do about this matter?
