I have never felt so disrespected
The bad treatment I received at your Kunjani Mall, Knysna store on 21 May 2026.
I visited the store to use your money transfer service and withdraw funds that had been sent to me. The cashier, Sima, assisted me and informed me that the transaction was invalid. I then asked for more information regarding the error message so that I could understand the issue and determine what steps to take next.
At this point, the store manager, Babalwa, intervened and responded in a dismissive and disrespectful manner. She stated that the cashier would not know whether I was the person who had been sent the money and that I should instead contact the sender. Her tone was unfriendly, rude, and unnecessarily confrontational.
While I waited for Sima to assist other customers and attempted to contact the sender, I again asked the cashier what the system error message displayed. Sima politely informed me that the message indicated an incorrect amount. However, despite the matter being handled, Babalwa continued making unsolicited remarks, repeatedly stating that staff could not be expected to know the amount sent to me and implying that customers were unreasonable for asking questions.
I explained that I was not expecting the cashier to know the transaction details and that I was simply requesting the error message so that I could resolve the issue. Rather than addressing my concern professionally, Babalwa responded by saying that customers were "annoying" because they expected staff to know everything.
When I pointed out that there was no need for her to speak to me in such a manner, she stated that she would speak however she wanted because it was "her store" and that if I did not like it, I could go to Shoprite instead.
The situation became even more concerning when she proceeded to chase two customers out of the store who were accompanying another customer. When I questioned why she was treating customers so rudely, she again stated that it was her store and that nobody would tell her what to do.
The interaction escalated into a heated argument in full view of numerous customers. During this confrontation, Babalwa allegedly threatened to meet me outside and "deal with me." Throughout the incident, the cashier, Sima, and the security guard remained polite and professional, although it appeared they were uncomfortable with the manager's behaviour.
I also requested Babalwa's name because she was not wearing a name tag. She refused to provide it. Another customer eventually provided her name and commented that this behaviour was common and that some customers avoid the store because of her attitude.
While I acknowledge that emotions became heightened during the confrontation, the situation was triggered by the manager's repeated disrespectful comments, poor customer service, and unprofessional conduct.
I find it unacceptable for a store manager to:
* Speak to customers in a disrespectful and confrontational manner. * Tell customers to shop elsewhere. * Claim the store is "hers" and that she can behave however she wishes. * Refuse to identify herself when requested. * Threaten customers during a dispute. * Create an environment that makes both customers and staff uncomfortable.
I request that this matter be thoroughly investigated, including reviewing any available CCTV footage and obtaining statements from staff members who witnessed the incident. I would also appreciate being informed of the outcome of your investigation and any corrective action taken.
I have always expected professional and respectful service from your stores, and I am disappointed that this experience fell so far below those standards.
