I am extremely disappointed with the service received from PEP Funeral/Hardship Benefit and Ackermans IUA regarding my late sister’s funeral cover claim.

My sister passed away in March, and I submitted all the required paperwork via email to Hardship Benefit. I requested confirmation of who the beneficiary was, but I only received responses after several follow-ups over the course of more than a month.

In May, I was finally asked to provide additional required information, which I did. I then contacted Ackermans IUA to ask who the beneficiary on my sister’s funeral policy was, but I was repeatedly told they could not provide the information because of the POPIA Act.

What is frustrating is that nobody was willing to properly assist us or explain the process clearly. We were simply told, “we don’t know who the beneficiary is,” while also refusing to provide any relevant information that could help us resolve the matter.

This experience has added unnecessary stress during a difficult time for our family. Based on this experience, I would not recommend taking funeral insurance through PEP/Ackermans unless customer service and claims communication improve significantly.
