Humiliating Treatment on entering Pep Store Kuils River

I am writing to bring to your attention a distressing incident that occurred at your Pep store in Kuils River, Shoprite Centre on August 13, 2024, between 12:00 and 12:30 pm. My wife, a 75-year-old lady, was subjected to a humiliating experience that has left her feeling belittled and upset.

Upon entering the store, my wife was confronted by a staff member named Elizma, who insisted that she hand over her handbag at the parcels counter. Despite my wife's explanations that she had never been asked to do so before and that her personal belongings, money, and bank cards were in the handbag, Elizma refused to listen and continued to demand that the handbag be left at the counter.

My wife was understandably upset and felt that her rights as a customer were being disregarded. She expressed her intention to never support Pep store again if this was the treatment she could expect. I later spoke with the acting store manager, Renate, who clarified that ladies' handbags are indeed allowed in the store, but shopping bags should be handed in at the counter.

While Elizma did eventually apologise to my wife, the incident has left a lasting impact. I am writing to bring this to your attention not to complain about Elizma, but to emphasise the need for staff training on store policies regarding parcels and handbags. This incident should not have occurred, and I hope that steps will be taken to ensure that customers are treated with the utmost respect and dignity in the future.
