Harassment at PEP Home Overport
Today I had a very unpleasant experience at PEP Home while shopping with my mom (PEP Home, The Atrium, Overport, Durban)
About 10 minutes after we entered the store, a male staff member approached us and asked my mom if I was her daughter. When she asked why, he repeated the question and then proceeded to make a comment about how many ***s he would need to pay for my lobola.
I found this extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable. As a woman simply shopping in a store, I should not have to deal with comments like this from a staff member. When confronted, he tried to brush it off as a “joke,” but remarks like that are not funny and are certainly not professional.
With everything happening in South Africa around the safety and respect of women, behaviour like this from someone representing a store is unacceptable.
We were so uncomfortable after this interaction that we chose to leave the store immediately without purchasing anything.
Unfortunately, I did not get the employee’s name, but this happened on the morning of Friday, 6 March. Management is welcome to review the CCTV footage to identify the staff member involved.
Customers deserve to feel safe and respected while shopping. I sincerely hope this matter is taken seriously and addressed.
