Assault and Trauma for Me and My Child at PEP store Sebokeng

I am deeply shocked and traumatized by the treatment I received at PEP Sebokeng. As I was leaving the store, the security guard accused me of *****ing and proceeded to search my bag without asking for my consent. He insisted that he checks “everyone,” yet the customers after me were not searched. I have shopped at PEP Home in the same complex and have never been treated in this way.

When I questioned why I was being singled out, the guard became aggressive and physically pushed me. My young son, who was standing behind me, fell and has been complaining of head pain. He was crying and is clearly traumatised by the incident. I now need to take him to the doctor for medical attention.

What is even more concerning is how store staff and management failed to respond. Despite me shouting for help and trying to explain, no one stepped in to de-escalate or investigate. Staff only reacted after the guard pushed me, showing a serious lack of accountability.

The security guard also referred to customers as “things,” saying this is how “things are used to *****ing.” This degrading attitude is unacceptable and reflects a broader culture of disrespect towards customers in this store.

This incident has caused physical, emotional, and psychological harm to both me and my child. I expect Pepkor to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves.
