Bullsh*t award goes to...

On Tuesday, 12 July 2016, I submitted a query form on Pentravel's website with regards to a flight quote. (Johannesburg, SA, to Sioux Falls, USA, & return)

Later that day, I received an email from Michelle Kruger (Pentravel La Lucia) that she will be assisting me. I gave her my intended travel dates & travellers. On Wednesday, 13 July, I received an email and quote from Michelle.

I was quoted for 3 different flight options. The last option was unfortunately cut off between pages 1 and 2. As far as I could see, the last option was R10 618-00p/p return on Delta Airlines, whereas the other options were R17 185 p/p and R16 259 p/p on United Airlines & British Airways respectively

I gave Michelle a call just to make sure that the price I was seeing was correct, she said she'll have a look and give me call back. A few minutes later, I received an email (no phone call) from her informing me that she had made a typing error, the cost for that flight was actually R20 878p/p

Effectively, the quote has now DOUBLED in price.

Nowhere on the quote or on their website, do the T's & C's give them a "get out of jail free card" for this kind of error. I spoke to Loryn, the KZN regional manager, and according to her, their lawyers have this option. This is misleading, as they refuse to give me the flight at the quoted price because they are "protected" on their side. None of this information is on the quote or website, I read both through TWICE to make sure before I started phoning to get this ticket.

I will not be accepting any of their quotes, as another travel agency was able to quote me on the same route and dates for less without any drama or hassles. The only solution Pentravel has, is to give me the BA flight for R15 474, a “wonderful” saving of R785 and I’m guessing this still includes the travel agents’ commission.

It also seems that this kind of error has happened before at this branch. I would think if you have had this problem, you'd double check your quotes before sending them out....

Pentravel is a disgrace and I will not be referring anyone to them for ANY kind of deals.

Dear Christelle,

As discussed during our telephone calls yesterday, we acknowledge the unfortunate, inadvertent error when quoting you for your flight to Sioux Falls, USA. This error was addressed and rectified prior to a booking being confirmed.

Pentravel prides itself on great customer service and we continually strive to do our utmost to ensure an extraordinary level of customer satisfaction is achieved at all times.

However and unfortunately on occasion an inadvertent error arises. This was unintentional and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. We do however believe that we have taken reasonable steps in this circumstance to assist you with the booking. As we have discussed, Pentravel offered a discount on the originally quoted British Airways flight in order to compensate for the oversight and as a gesture of goodwill.

We once again apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,

Loryn Holmes

KZN Regional Manager
