Cost to repair 1 link of a cheap chain more than the chain itself.

My medic alert bracelet broke last week. Just the larger link which connects the chain to the tag. I went to another jeweler I know in Fourways Mall and was told Pearl & Diamond was the only jeweler in the mall who did it. I asked the woman how much it would be and when will it be ready. I was told between R150-R200 and a couple of days. I was shocked at the price (and said so) but in too much of a hurry to think it through and cant bear to be without my bracelet.

In hindsight I should just have found some kind of link at home and done it myself. I felt absolute awful for letting these people 'rob' me out of so much money to add a tiny stainless steel link to a bracelet.

It ended up costing R220 (?) - more than the 'band' of price range which I was told. They cannot just charge anything - there is surely a set amount for different sizes. Then dont tell me R150-R200. Or do they just tell people one thing and charge another? Can they do that? It makes me sick to think I let these people fix my bracelet - the actual bracelet I think cost less than R220! Thats after its made to order with your details carved onto the bracelet and in Cape Town. I was told its expensive cos of them having to "send it to the warehouse" and "weld" it together. Oh please - for a tiny cheap chain link. Come on.

What a load of ****. I have very very expensive (and sentimental value) jewelry I wanted fixed but after reading another customers complaint on how they destroyed a beautiful antique necklace and replaced the stones with inferior quality (and didnt even replace all of them - removed part of the chain .... for no reason) to the point it didnt fit this person! With the issue never being resolved.

There is NO WAY I will let these people touch my expensive jewelry at the risk of being totally ********** in price, but more importantly, devaluing the jewelry with a situation similar to another complaint.
