Stay far away
Please stay away from using the services of the petsitting agency PawsNClaws, Fourways, owned by Tina Collins. It was my first experience of using an agency for pet sitting and certainly due to the nightmare experience I had, will be my last. I'm not sure if this agency has a screening procedure for the people they employ to petsit or if they ever screened the pet sitter that was sent to my home. We went away on holiday from 1 January to 8 January 2025 and PawsNClaws sent a man, named Lucas Neethling to stay in my home and take care of my dog and for 3 days, my daughter's dog. I put my complete trust in PawsNClaws, as a reputable agency, positive that the pet sitter they placed would be trustworthy and reliable. This man was not even in my home for 12 hours, when my nightmare began. Lucas Neethling invited a woman to stay with him in my home which is, first of all a breach of policy. Drugs were involved and he ended up threatening this woman's life. In the physical struggle that ensued, he proceeded to trash my home. The police had to be called out to rescue this woman. Lucas was so aggressive that the police had to break in my front door and pepper spray him to the point of unconsciousness. I suffered breakages/damages yo the value of over R9000.00. The two biggest items were my printer and my fridge. He smashed the glass inside my printer and pushed my fridge over with such force that it no longer worked. When I returned from my holiday, I itemized all the items that had been damaged and would have to be replaced. Before my return, the agency brought a fridge , without consultation with me, to supposedly replace my damaged one.The outer body of the fridge was in terrible condition. The fridge's thermostat then had to be replaced and a week later the fridge just stopped working altogether. I tried to get the fridge technician, whom the agency had used to assess my original fridge, to come out and assess what was wrong with the replacement fridge. David, from David Easy Appliance Repairs turned out to be rude and totally unreliable and after many attempts, still did not make any effort to make a call out. The agency did not seem at all concerned that I was struggling without a working fridge for an entire week and up to now, no replacement fridge has been given. Tina, the owner kept telling me that she was waiting for the insurance for feedback on the claim that the agency submitted. After a week, I was informed by email, that the damage incurred in my home was not going to be covered by their insurance. Tina then offered me a 'goodwill' payment of R4000.00. In order to replace my printer and my fridge with the equivalent of what I had before, the cost equals R8300.00 It is now the 28th January and PawsNClaws have been stalling since the incident took place on 1st January. I am, understandably, not able to accept their offer of R4000.00 and they are unwilling to accept liability for what their employee did and responsibility for the damages incurred in my home on 1 January.
After several weeks of waiting, I received an email from them, stating that their insurance would not cover any compensation for the material losses I had suffered. Further, an offer was made to me of a time-sensitive goodwill payment of 50 % of my losses.
In the heat of the moment, in my frustration in the whole situation, I felt prompted to post on HelloPeter. I therefore, am compelled to apologize to Tina Collins, proprietor of above-mentioned pet services, for my initial comment. (As always the public seeking to obtain such services are absolutely free in their choices). It was not my intention to defame her and do not hold any ill will against her.
I also apologize for questioning the businesses' screening processes, but doubts crept in, when more information became available.
The rest of my comments are factual, honest and true.
To date, I have received nil compensation.
