Bad service

For tool hire - please stay away from Paul’s Hire in Wellington. My husband hired a Chipper (to remove excess tile cement from floor after tiles were removed during renovation of our bathroom). After only 3 MINUTES of using the chipper, smoke came from the chipper motor and he immediately stopped working. I phoned Paul’s Hire, they send 2 of their workers to us with a replacement machine and the one worker immediately accused my husband of breaking the machine because the cement taken off were too thick. That was NOT the case - the excess cement taken off was still on the floor where he worked, the thickest pieces of cement taken off was less than half a cm and the other pieces half of that thickness. It was impossible to break the machine after less than 3 minutes of use due to “over usage” if there wasn’t already a problem with the machine. My husband then used the replacement machine to do the rest of the work - and that machine worked fine and he took off exactly the same type of tile cement - without any problem. That doesn’t make sense??? When taking the replacement chipper back, the company refused to refund the R1000 deposit paid. The owner was very rude (not even there, I spoke to him over the telephone) and just said that they gave us a workable tool and that it has been broken by my husband - which was totally impossible to do if the machine has been in proper working condition. We will definitely not recommend that anyone use this business.
