PARK CARE HOME PARK TOWN

While I appreciate that this case was a few years ago - - I feel it needs to be told. My mother (Mrs. Schultz) was placed with dementia in the PARK CARE HOME for the elderly in PARK TOWN JHB. she entered into their care on 9th AUGUST 2015 after my having looked after her for 25 plus years in my home as I couldn't care for her during the day while I was at work. It was the WORST DECISION of my life & I have regretted it ever since - - all these years later. There were many unhappy memories of her time there - - all of 2 months when I took her out after not wanting her to stay another day on a Friday afternoon. Every time I visited I left in tears driving home. Some of the things experienced were as follows - - when she was bathed it was in a big bathe room with a bath with side door entry - - the staff would SCRUB HER SKIN TIL RAW - - I went to watch eventually every Friday so that I could see for myself as she had sores all over her back & when I asked why - I was tols THEY ALL GET THAT!!! They were given tin plates with a s**** to eat with & a tin mug - - - like peasants!!!! On a weekend when visiting on entry the STENCH OF URINE as one entered the home was horrific!!!! Her clothes were totally ruined with their washing facility so that I used to call on my way home & to work to collect it to wash myself. It was the MOST HORRIFIC experience of my life - - - many more bad experiences of staff attitude & treatment. As a result when I would leave after visiting she would CLING TO THE SMALL GATE AT THE HOME ENTRANCE begging me not to. Leave her there to take her home!!! When I tried to explain that I was away at work all day til 6 pm she couldn't be left alone she would Cy saying that she would go with me to work & sit on my car all day to wait for me!!!!!!! 😭😭😭🥰It was a shocking experience with many Monday morning meetings following up on her treatment etc. I paid a deposit of R6K - - which they promptly REFUSED to refund after only 2 months stay. This CARE HOME set my mother back 20 years - - she was definitely worse off for the experience. I brought her home & had a caregiver for 2 months while she tried to recover from the experience until placing her in a lovely home for only 1 month when she passed away suddenly on 29th leap yr day only a few months later. This horrific experience has lived with me all these years as I am now 73 myself & I would rather die than live in that place myself.
