You are not welcome!
So to round up my son's birthday we decided to go to Papachinos Silverlakes. I mean he loves the place especially for the play area. Granted we did arrive a bit on the late side 7:40pm but the restaurant was set to close at 9pm as per website. We get there and as we arrive we are greeted with a: "We are about to close in 45minutes are you sure that you will be able to enjoy yourselves?" My husband responded with could you seat us please. Next to the play area and we will order swiftly. I asked why are we not welcomed and why the hostility. The waiter did not respond but was speaking in tswana to his colleagues to say that we were forewarned and we have no excuse to stay late. In the spirit of my son's birthday I chose not to let that bother me. We sat by the outside terrace, by the ramp to the top floor, next to the play area. My husband ordered everything at the same time and while we waited for the food as our son played. The constant comments from the waiters and them washing the floors around us really made us feel uncomfortable. They kept asking (amongst themselves) if we had asked for the dessert as yet. Why are we not eating faster and frankly we were just not allowed to enjoy our meal. Needless to say we ate quickly and asked for our dessert. Pizza was good but dessert was a let down. I guess that's to be expected as we were not supposed to be there. The malva was barely warm, with ultra Mel custard was cold around the malva and it was dry. Not the moist goodness you love out of a malva. Tasted cinnamony as well. So not the classic malva profile. The chocolate cake looked more promising but sadly it was just dry. Again. I guess that is what you get for coming that late... We asked to pay and leave. Just in time for that 8:30 "closing time" as well. My son ran to the other side of the restaurant to the other play gym. What we saw was literally the opposite of what we just experienced. People enjoying themselves and with no rush or panic in sight. You could feel that they have been there for a while and where in no rush to leave. The ambience we know the restaurant to have. I was just dumbfounded to our experience this time. I work in the hospitality industry as well. I know for a fact that as much as it is frustrating to have guests walk in late its still our duty to give our best. To leave lasting impressions that they can come back. I love this restaurant especially that my son has a blast there but this time I was totally disappointed with the service. I didn't have a clear look at the waiter's name who was the lead initiator of the bad service. We also just had random people assist us so no constant one person. A truly disappointing experience for a good restaurant.
