CONSUMER WARNING: PANDODOX / PRETORIA REPAIR CENTRE QUOTED R11,974.18 — MY SAMSUNG GALAXY S21 WAS RESTORED FOR R3,000 I am publishing this documented consumer complaint concerning: Pandodox (Pty) Ltd Also operating or publicly presenting itself as Pretoria Repair Centre / Samsung Pretoria Samsung Electronics South Africa (Pty) Ltd Samsung service order *** This is not an allegation that every Samsung service partner behaves in the same way. It is not an allegation of ***** or ******** conduct. It is a factual account of the technical findings and quotation issued in my case, the corporate entities involved, and what occurred when the same phone was subsequently repaired independently. WHO ACTUALLY ISSUED THE QUOTATION? The R11,974.18 quotation was issued through Pretoria Repair Centre, with the quotation’s banking details identifying the account name as Pandodox. Samsung’s own service-partner information identifies Pandodox Pty Ltd as its Pretoria service partner at Harrier Place, 179 Dyer Road, Hillcrest, Pretoria—the same address and contact number connected to the quotation. The centre also publicly presents itself under the names Pandodox, Samsung Pretoria and Pretoria Repair Centre. Accordingly, this complaint is not directed only at Samsung Head Office. It concerns: Pandodox / Pretoria Repair Centre, which inspected the phone, made the technical findings and issued the quotation; and Samsung Electronics South Africa, whose Legal Department subsequently obtained, re**** upon and defended those authorised-service findings. WHAT PANDODOX / PRETORIA REPAIR CENTRE QUOTED The Galaxy S21 was inspected under service order ***. The quotation dated 11 June 2026 listed: LCD/screen: R2,967.54 excluding VAT Mainboard: R5,587.60 excluding VAT Sub PBA: R536.79 excluding VAT Battery: R570.41 excluding VAT Kit: R200.00 excluding VAT Labour: R550.00 excluding VAT The total quotation was: R11,974.18 INCLUDING VAT The quotation recorded: “LIQUID DAMAGE, GENERIC BATTERY AND UNIT IS TEMPERED WITH” [sic] The technical findings subsequently re**** upon by Samsung stated that the Main PBA, Sub PBA and battery had sustained damage and had been “confirmed to be faulty.” The Mainboard and Sub PBA alone accounted for approximately: R7,043.05 INCLUDING VAT WHAT THE INDEPENDENT REPAIRER ACTUALLY FOUND After collecting the phone from Pandodox / Pretoria Repair Centre, I took it directly to an independent cellphone repair centre. When the device was opened, the independent repairer found that the installed battery was physically swollen. The battery was replaced. The screen was replaced. The phone then powered on and functioned. Critically: The motherboard was not replaced. The Main PBA was not replaced. The Main PBA was not repaired. The Sub PBA was not replaced. The Sub PBA was not repaired. No soldering, reworking or other board-level repair was performed. The independent repair cost was: R3,000 The Pandodox / Pretoria Repair Centre quotation was: R11,974.18 The difference was: R8,974.18 The authorised-service quotation was therefore almost four times the amount ultimately paid to restore the phone to working condition. THE CONTRADICTION THAT REQUIRES AN ANSWER The authorised service centre did not merely state that the Main PBA and Sub PBA might require further investigation. The technical position was that these components had been confirmed faulty. Their replacement was included in a quotation approaching R12,000. But the phone was subsequently restored without either board being repaired, replaced, soldered or otherwise touched. A battery and screen replacement cannot retrospectively repair a Mainboard or Sub PBA that was supposedly already confirmed faulty. The operational result therefore directly contradicts the categorical board-failure diagnosis. Pandodox and Samsung may contend that an intermittent, partial or secondary board fault existed. That would require objective technical evidence, including: The precise tests performed; Diagnostic codes; Voltage readings; Continuity and resistance measurements; Photographs; Technician notes; Moisture-indicator findings; Inspection records; and The technical basis for declaring each board faulty. No such underlying test results accompanied the quotation supp**** to me. THE SWOLLEN BATTERY IS PARTICULARLY MATERIAL The phone had already displayed severe battery problems shortly after I acquired it. When the independent repairer eventually opened the phone, the battery was reportedly physically swollen. That is a concrete physical condition. Yet the authorised-service quotation went substantially further and represented the screen, Mainboard, Sub PBA, battery and additional components as part of a repair totalling R11,974.18. The actual repair outcome indicates that the physically defective battery and screen could be dealt with without replacing either quoted board. SAMSUNG CANNOT SIMPLY DISTANCE ITSELF FROM THE REPAIR CENTRE Pandodox was not an unrelated repair shop selected privately from the street. It operated through Samsung’s authorised-service channel. Samsung’s own public information identifies Pandodox as a Samsung service partner. Samsung Legal thereafter obtained and re**** upon the centre’s findings when formulating Samsung’s position and denying liability. Samsung cannot rely on an authorised service report when it supports Samsung’s defence, but treat the service centre as completely separate when the accuracy of that report is challenged. Responsibility for the actual diagnosis lies first with the business that conducted the inspection and issued the quotation. Responsibility for relying upon and defending that diagnosis also lies with Samsung Electronics South Africa. THE ROLE OF CASH CRUSADERS The phone was originally purchased second-hand from Cash Crusaders Sun Valley / Longbeach Mall for R3,499. The original battery complaint and Cash Crusaders’ handling of that complaint form part of a separate consumer dispute. Cash Crusaders did not issue the R11,974.18 repair quotation. The quotation and disputed board diagnosis came from Pandodox / Pretoria Repair Centre through Samsung’s authorised-service process. The roles must not be confused. WHAT I AM SAYING The documented facts are: Pandodox / Pretoria Repair Centre inspected the phone. It issued service quotation ***. The total quotation was R11,974.18. The quotation included replacement of the Mainboard and Sub PBA. The technical position re**** upon by Samsung stated that those boards were confirmed faulty. An independent repairer later found a physically swollen battery. The battery and screen were replaced. The phone powered on and functioned. Neither board was repaired or replaced. The actual independent repair cost was R3,000. The difference was R8,974.18. Samsung and Pandodox were formally afforded an opportunity to verify, explain or correct the technical record. Those facts speak for themselves. WHAT I AM NOT SAYING I am not claiming that deliberate dishonesty has been proved. I am not alleging that every employee, technician, Samsung service centre or repair partner produces inaccurate findings. I am not asking the public to determine any pending court or consumer proceedings. I am recording my own documented consumer experience and warning other consumers to insist upon objective technical evidence before authorising expensive repairs. MY WARNING TO CONSUMERS Before approving an expensive cellphone repair: Identify the actual legal entity issuing the quotation. Do not rely only on Samsung branding displayed by the service centre. Demand a fully itemised quotation. Ask precisely how each component was tested. Request the diagnostic results and measurements. Ask for photographs and written technician findings. Obtain an independent assessment before approving a Mainboard replacement. Keep the original quotation and job card. Photograph the device before surrendering it. Preserve removed parts. Do not assume that every component appearing on a quotation has been objectively proven defective. A consumer should not be expected to pay thousands of rand for parts merely because those parts appear on an authorised-service quotation. Where a Mainboard or other expensive component is declared faulty, the technical conclusion must be capable of independent scrutiny. This publication is entirely separate from settlement discussions and litigation. No payment, benefit, settlement or other advantage has been requested or offered in exchange for silence, removal, delayed publication or non-publication. This is a documented consumer complaint concerning Pandodox (Pty) Ltd / Pretoria Repair Centre / Samsung Pretoria and Samsung Electronics South Africa (Pty) Ltd, and a warning to other consumers to obtain technical evidence and an independent assessment before approving expensive cellphone repairs. LEGAL DISCLAIMER: This publication is not legal, financial, technical or other regulated professional advice. It records a personal consumer experience, documentary quotations and findings received, the subsequent independent repair outcome, and conclusions honestly drawn from the available evidence. Statements of fact, reported findings, inference and opinion must be read according to their stated nature. No allegation of *****, ******** conduct or deliberate dishonesty is made.
