Questionable Ethics and Terrible Service

Upon our arrival to South Africa, we needed temporary accomodations for 2 months. We rented from Pam Golding Properties. At first, things seemed to be fine. We paid for a fully furnished house, and for an additional fee, we paid for a **** twice a week as part of the rental fee.

The first red flag was when Pam Golding Properties was several days late paying the **** the first month. Her son was going on a school trip, and she desperately needed money to buy him clothes for the trip. The agent claimed that she was waiting for the money from the homeowner and it was out of her control. This is an absolute lie, because we ALREADY paid for the **** in our rental money. We ended up giving the **** R500 to buy the uniform for her son, and we thought this was a one time error on the part of the company.

We moved out of the house into our permanent house on Oct 28th. It's not Nov 10, and we haven't been able to get a satisfactory answer as to why our deposit has not been returned. The inspection was done before Nov 1, and everything was in order. The agent CC'd me in an e-mail to their accounting team in an effort to get an answer, but was met with silence. After several emails, I've still heard nothing. Now they don't even have the courtesy to reply at all. Up until this point, I've been nothing but polite and courteous with the company, but their silence and their track record is terrible. I wish I had checked the reviews on HelloPeter before ever renting from them.

Stay away from this company. I'm sure there are better ones out there.

Here's a follow up. The regional office manager contacted me after I expressed extreme frustration at not getting replies or any reasonable answer. Marianne was terrific. She apologized without reservation, and explained that the deposit is usually held until the final utility bill arrives from the city. This makes sense to me, but the fact is that nobody was able to tell me that in numerous queries before I escalated the matter. She seemed to truly care about my experience, so I'm upgrading this to a 4. I'm still frustrated by the lack of communication from several others at PGP, but it does seem the management is trying to do the right thing. Thank you, Marianne, for clearing everything up and pushing the refund through. Your intervention is appreciated.
