Business policy against employees on Alcohol and drug abuse

Dear Peter, I've decided to write about my experience with Pam Golding Properties in Betty's Bay now, after working for them for almost 10 years, Gold club agent and string of other awards while working for them, only to be forced to resign when they discovered I went to rehab. Reason given was because I will damage their Brand. (this on the day, I still give them a signed contract for a sale I've concluded) I was just wondering what policies companies, in general, in South Africa have in place for employees suffering from mental illness? Such as depression, anxiety, addiction, etc. It's been a rather tough and extremely difficult Road for me in my recovery and if it was not for the love and support from my mom and brothers, I honestly don't know where I would of ended. I just feel that companies should be more supportive with employees whom have dedicated themselves, sacrificed years of dedicated service, that a company at least supports that employee throughout that life changing, scary and confused time in their life. Not every person is as fortunate as me to have had my family. Like I said, not sure where I would of landed if not for that support. What happens to all the others Pam Golding Properties have done this to? Where are those people now? Dead, mental clinics, or in the streets??? It's scary to come out of what I've been through to think that a company like Pam Golding Properties don't support their sales agents, should they be suffering from mental illnesses.
