Unfair

My family and I have been renting a flat in Rant en Dal Krugersdorp from December 2016 till the 7th of August 2017. The current owner of the flat is Bernard Judels, owner of P3 Construction. When we initially moved into the flat there was a informal inspection carried out by an estate agent where as not all items (to the very last detail) were noted by the agent. Bernard and I had never met face to face and only communicated when the rent and electricity was due at the end of each month. I was told that he only viewed the flat once before we moved in since the flat was given to him by a family member, and had no expenditure in this regard. The estate agent and I have requested a couple of things that needed attention and replacement but he never rep**** to the request. The day we moved out he himself did the post inspection, the second time he viewed HIS property and confirmed that he wil pay me back my deposit. Later that day he called me and explaned all the problems he spotted after doing a thorough inspection. He who repetedly reminded me that he is in the construction business and knows everything about building, can guarantee me that after all required repairs and renovations, I will be lucky to receive any part of my deposit. I mean now he walks into this place for the second time not knowing in what condition the flat was in prior to us moving in and the estate agent claimed that he has got nothing to do with the rental agreement. I offered to get three quorations for the listed repairs and renovations he wanted to carry out and he refused once again with the statement that he is a builder and he will do what is needed and if, only if there are funds left from my deposit he will transfer it to my account. He paid me R1750 out of the R9000 for his renovations and benifits making use of the most expensive materials for the renovations. The quotes I got came to a total of R3400 that could have done the same job if not better. And most of the problems were issues existent prior to moving in.
